Where it All Began
We've been travelling the world on our bikes for more than 20 years...
As you might expect we've got a few stories to tell, not to mention the one where we decided to do this trapped in a snowstorm on a mountain pass in Chile. As we, (Paul and Andrew - hello!) hunkered down together next to our bikes 13,000ft up, we talked about the journey we'd been on, riding through a place instead of simply passing by.
And it's this conversation, held in a mild frost-bitten peril, that led to us starting Saddle Skedaddle. Importantly, what inspired us all those years ago still inspires us today. That travel should move you and that there is no better way to meet a place properly - its people, its culture, its natural wonders - than by bike.

Our intrepid directors, Paul and Andrew (Straws) head off to Chile on a year-long biking adventure. It gives them an idea and the seeds of Skedaddle are sown...
1995
A long night brainstorming in the pub ends with a few sore heads and a cracking company name 'Saddle Skedaddle'.
1996
The first ever Skedaddle tour takes place. Somehow we convince 5 brave punters to head to Chile, with Straws in tow...
1997
We launch our first ever website, finally a place to host Straw's expensive Blue Steel snaps...
1999
Demand for gentle cycling grows and we launch the first European leisure tour in Norway!
2001
Native Sardinian Naomi convinces us there's tons of great places in Italy to be savoured at the speed of the bike. Skedaddle Italia is born!

Inspired by his Traidcraft roots, Paul puts the wheels in motion to develop a range of tours, known as Meet the People, enabling travellers to visit fair trade producers across the globe.

Yorkshire born Dan charms his way into the Skedaddle family and leads our first ever mountain biking tour in Spain's mighty Picos de Europa. Hola, Skedaddle Espana.

Skedaddler Jim Taylor takes on his first ever Highland C2C mountain biking tour in Scotland, since then he's re-booked the same holiday a whopping 14 times. A true repeat offender...

David Hall joins the team and tells us road cycling is the future. It's not long before he introduces several new tours to the range, including the epic LEJOG and Grand Tour of the Med.

Our first annual team training course takes place for out growing peloton of guides. We also venture to new lands, with Skedaddle cycle tours taking place in Morocco and India.

We team up with cycle charity Sustrans, pioneering a scheme which sees us donate 5p for every mile cycled on the National Cycle Network in the UK.

Paul and Straws decide coffee and cake on tap is essential for day-to-day Skedaddle operations and help set up, and relocate the office to, Newcastle's first official cycle café, The Cycle HUB.
