Our Bike and Boat tours offer a fantastic way to experience a country and its waterways! With the comfort of keeping the same room each night, but the luxury of enjoying a new view from your window every day, this really is the best of both worlds. We caught up with Marketing’s Fran Wilson to hear about her top ‘boating’ highlights having experienced a cycling tour in Croatia with Skedaddle:
Having been lucky enough to escape the office for a week in May to enjoy a spot of island hopping aboard the a traditional Croatian Yacht, little did I imagine how attached I would become to my floating home for the week. Whilst the cycling was undeniably beautiful, see article ‘Paradise Found: An Adriatic Adventure’ for more details on this, for me the boat we stayed on formed a big part of the experience I enjoyed whilst away. So, what were my favourite bits? Here goes…
1. The top deck
As a true leisure cyclist at heart, the perfect holiday for me always has to consist of a little relaxation time. our yacht for the week came kitted out with comfortable sun loungers and incredible panoramic views across the sea, this is the perfect place to watch the world go by with a drink in one hand and a book in the other!
2. The food
There’s no worry about going hungry whilst on this tour, that’s for sure. From an extensive buffet breakfast to tenderly cooked meats both at lunchtime and dinner, it became a fantastic guessing game to figure out what delicious concoction was being cooked up for us from the smells drifting out of the kitchen. My mind was blown after the first evening and far from having our expectations raised to have them dashed later in the week, the delicious meals just kept coming, proved by the increasing applause for the chefs each night…
3. Becoming a pirate
One of the more novel aspects of our holiday was anchoring against other yachts in each port. As an incredibly popular area to sail in, this happened on more than one occasion! This allowed us the chance to check out other boats and compare with our own (perfect for the nosey being that I am!) On one such occasion, having arrived in the glitzy town of Hvar (a regular haunt of celebrities, so we were told) after a day on the bikes, we found the our boat attached to not one, but seven other boats – cue excited jumping from one boat to the next; I’ve always thought the pirate’s life was for me anyway…
4. A new way to unwind…
What better way to wake up than to find yourself gliding through the water, past beautiful landmasses, with nothing but the sound of the ocean against the bow of the boat. Sounds like the stuff of dreams right? Well, our boat was called the San Snova (translating to: ‘dream of dreams’) after all.
5. A new washing experience…
Daily cycling in the sunshine inevitably leads to clothes that need a good clean! Whilst there isn’t a washing machine onboard, a quick scrub in the sink will suffice and the washing lines outside each cabin make for a speedy way to dry your items needed through the week. Who needs fabric fresh conditioner when you’ve got natural sea breeze to air your cycling kit?!
