Whether you’re joining us for a cheeky break in the UK, in one of our popular European destinations or setting your sights further afield, plenty of awe-inspiring pedalling revolutions await the wheels of those escaping in the next few months!
What better way to get in the holiday mood than by starting to plan for your upcoming trip? That’s why we caught up with our Skedaddle family to get their top packing tips.
Absolute essentials…
‘Immersing yourself in the sounds of faraway lands, the bird calls, the click of your free hubs, the greeting of friendly locals you pass on the road is a huge part of the travelling experience and is something not to be missed. The sounds of crying babies and snoring passengers on a long haul flight though is something best avoided, so a good pair of headphones is my travelling must have!’ Adam, Head of Customer Experience
‘Flip flops provide your tired feet with a much needed breath of fresh air at the end of a day exploring. There’s also an unwritten rule whilst travelling, that flip flops are completely acceptable when eating at even the most exclusive of restaurants.’ Andrew, Cycling Adventures
‘As a leisure cyclist I’m all about cycling in beautiful locations with fantastic weather. I’m always sure to pack my fave sunglasses for those sunny days in the saddle. They help me admire the spectacular views, while looking cool at the same time – double win!‘ Ruth, Family and EU Leisure Cycling
‘Great memories is the best thing to bring back from any trip, and I find reminiscing over photos is a perfect way to rekindle those memories. So whether it’s on my phone, or my camera if I have a little extra space, I’m always snapping!’ Dan, Operations Coordinator
‘My holiday planning always begins with a map! Having a sense of the landscape and all of the possible places to visit along the way always builds excitement. I like the independence of having a good map, the reassurance that in an old town or city you can wander until you get lost, taking the path that looks most enticing, knowing that with your map you don’t have to worry about retracing your steps and you can always find your way back to base.‘ Lizzie, Product Development
Because we love a book to flick through…
‘I always like to purchase a small phrase book so that I can fully immerse myself in a different culture. It normally fits pretty snuggly in my back pocket, or pannier bag, so I can try out a bit of the local language out on the bike too!’ Fran, Marketing Manager
‘A book is my most important travel companion. It’s not for everyone, with many preferring the more hand luggage friendly kindle, but for me, finding a quiet spot in a sunny park, or a corner table in an outdoor café and immersing myself in a story is one of the most relaxing parts of being on holiday. There’s nothing better after a day out on the bike than spending an hour winding down with a book and a beer.’ Kay, EU Leisure Cycling
The No.1 item for all cyclists…
‘Skedaddle puts your safety first and a helmet is required to be worn whenever cycling on one of our tours. We can always supply you a helmet if needed, but bringing your own is highly recommended as you know it will fit well and be comfortable as well as matching your cycling kit (looking good is half the battle!). If you are travelling to hot countries a peak is a good feature and make sure your helmet is in good condition. If it’s been dropped, dented or seen too many hours in the sun it might be time for a stylish new lid!’ Matt, Mountain Biking
