Holiday Information

Our Raid Dolomiti road cycling holiday is one of 2 Raids within our Classic Road programme and the most challenging of all.
During a week of breathtaking cycling you’ll ride a total of 1,000km taking in 39 cols and ascend an incredible 20,000 metres. The tour starts in Switzerland close to Lake Geneva and will cover the whole of the Alpine range including some of Italy’s most dramatic mountain roads and ends on the Adriatic coast at Trieste. If you love mountain climbing and a real cycling challenge then this is the trip for you.
During the tour you’ll be able to tick off some of the most famous cols in European cycling and the Tour de France - the Simplon, San Bernardino, and the Splugen, before moving into the Dolomites and the Giro d’Italia classics of the Stelvio, Sella Ronda, Giau, Tre Cime di Lavardo, and the Zoncolan. Each day during your ride you’ll be surrounded by stunning Alpine scenery as you make your way through some of the most beautiful towns and villages of this breathtaking area.
Although the focus is very much on the riding, we’ll be making sure you get your daily caffeine fix and also have some time to explore places such as St Moritz and Cortina, with its vibrant nightlife. The tour finishes at Trieste on the Adriatic and is the ‘easiest’(!) day of the tour.
From Tolmezzo we leave the big mountains behind and skirt the Slovenian border before making our way along the rolling sections roads of the coast. Still a decent distance today but rest assured there'll still be plenty of time for a final celebratory dinner and drinks to celebrate your achievement.
WHAT IS A RAID? - A Raid challenge is a ride where you must complete an entire allocated route within a certain timeframe. The Raid Dolomiti is administered by the cycle club Thonon Le Bains, with the official route starting in their home town and finishing in Trieste. To officially complete the RAID you must have your passbook (your 'carnet') stamped at 6 official checkpoints along the way. Only then can you collect your well-deserved RAID certificate and medal!
