Holiday Information

This tour starts in beautiful Bled in the Julian Alps of Slovenia a small picturesque town situated on its namesake lake. The lake is backed by magnificent views and is the perfect choice for a fabulously relaxing start to the tour.
Resembling Austria the Julian Alps are renowned for their tree lined passes that we’ll be exploring during the initial stages of the trip. This is a region of remote farmsteads, churches perched on lofty hillsides and gushing alpine streams that can be heard in deep forests and that appear as crashing waterfalls along your route. An early highlight is the The Vršic Pass. A total of fifty sweeping hairpins, whose cobbles are laid out in distinctive shapes around the bends of the climb, and draw you up to its 1,611m summit. From here it’s time for a photo op before enjoying a thrilling descent down the other side.
Midpoint of the trip we cross over to Croatia at a point where a river forms the natural border between the two countries, riding first on the northern side of the river and then on the southern side as we cross into Croatia.
Next on the schedule are the Velebit mountains and with them classic Croatian imagery, its steep sided cliffs plunging straight into the vivid blue of the Adriatic. From these lofty peaks there’s only one way to go… down! as we embark on a rollercoaster descent of nearly 1,000m from the cool heights of the mountains to the warm, citrus scented breeze of the coast below.
Having descended from the mountains we now begin our island hop. Croatia boasts over 700 islands making it the largest archipelago in the Adriatic. Continuing cycling our route takes us across the islands of Pag, Korcula and the Peljesac Peninsula, each of which are distinct in their culture and terrain. Pag is famed for its hard cheese, best served with a glass of well chilled Croatian wine, Korcula claims the prize for tourism, with the ancient Greeks holidaying here over 2,000 years ago and is also known for its medieval walls that encompass the city. Across the water the Peljesac Peninsula’s hilly finger of land is covered with tiny villages and its sheltered coves are perfect for a post ride dip!
Next stop is Split a more relaxed and arguably more beautiful city than Dubrovnik, where we end the ride. In the daytime markets selling local arts and crafts spring up in its centre and at night the area comes alive with bars and restaurants. Overnight stops during the tour range from peaceful mountain towns, aged island villages to the vibrant nightlife of Split and Dubrovnik. From the high passes of the Julian Alps, the varied scenery of the Velebit mountains to the dramatic coastline of the Adriatic this road cycling tour offers variety and challenges popular perceptions of Slovenia and Croatia.
