Itinerary
Depart for South Africa on one of the many overnight flights arriving the next day in Johannesburg.
- Meals: Dinner
After meeting your local Skedaddle guiding team in Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport you will head off on your transfer to Waterberg in the Limpopo region of South Africa. Just 3.5 hour’s drive from the city of Jo‘berg, the Waterberg is a pristine rugged wilderness boasting mountains, savannah and dense forests.
Having stopped for lunch en-route and checked in to Summerplace Farm we are set to get on our bikes for an afternoon exploring an amazing network of single track. We’ll return for sundowners and dinner at the farm house.

- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After a good night’s rest, we wake up to freshly brewed coffee, rusks and fruits. We depart on our bikes and cycle through the farm on a combination of rough single track and farm roads. Our journey today takes us to a special spot in time to feed the Rhino’s and cherish the movements of these prehistoric and endangered animals.
We return to our bikes and explore more of the reserve – home to giraffe, zebra, kudu, buffalo, and rhino. We climb uphill before arriving at Zip-line Adventures for lunch overlooking the Waterberg gorge.
After a light afternoon lunch, we ride down the mountain on a newly designed single track back to the farm house for sundowners and dinner.

- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After some fresh-brew coffee and rusks we have an early start to the day. We will transfer you to a neighbouring farm in time for the feeding of the Buffalo’s – one of the Big Five. Thereafter we will hop on our bikes and explore this wilderness area before arriving at our picnic breakfast somewhere in the reserve. After a hearty breakfast, we continue our ride through the reserve and return back to the Farm House for lunch and some downtime. This afternoon’s ride will be a combination of single track, small jumps and breath-taking views. We will meet the team at a secret sundowner location – with a view – before returning back to the Farm House for dinner.

- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
We’ll take an early breakfast before we depart for Leshiba. We unload our bikes at the base of the Soutpansberg Mountains – this where the real challenges begin. We have a tough rocky climb (approx. 10km/6Miles) before we enter the reserve and cycling on to our accommodation. After check-in at Luvhondo Camp, we can choose between a short afternoon ride or an afternoon at leisure. We’ll have dinner in the boma (camp enclosure).
Situated high on the plateau of the Soutpansberg mountains in the Limpopo Province, this reserve has one of South Africa’s highest biodiversity of flora and fauna with unrivalled scenery, unspoilt nature, a rich variety of endemic wildlife species.
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After a light breakfast, a full morning is taken to explore Leshiba by bike, with a mixture of brilliant single track and jeep trails. En route we’ll stop for a late morning picnic brunch in the reserve. We’ll cycle to Noria’s gallery where you will be staying for the night. A game drive is offered in the afternoon with a chance to view Leshiba’s wildlife from the comfort of a game viewing vehicle. Spend the afternoon enjoying the beautiful views from Leshiba’s Venda Village and dip in the swimming pool, or for those feeling energetic, a short cycle or trail run.
Noria Mabasa, an internationally renowned local artist, has created the authentic Venda Village and sculpted a wonderland of artworks that seamlessly blend art and living spaces.

- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After a leisurely breakfast, we head down the mountain and off to our Game Reserve in the Northern Tuli, Botswana. We’ll stop for a break and snack en-route before arriving at the Platjan Border Post at around midday. After border formalities we unload the bikes and ride out into the wild African bush along ancient elephant paths and some jeep tracks.
Wildlife includes impala, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, eland, elephant, lion, leopard and black-backed jackal. The 2 hour ride ends at a rustic wilderness camp where luggage awaits alongside comfortable meru-style stand up tents. It is a temporary, low-impact, fully-equipped camp where you can enjoy hot bucket showers, ice-cold drinks and meals cooked over an open fire.

- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
As dawn’s colours touch the horizon, you awaken to freshly brewed coffee and a light breakfast.
We set off for unchartered landscapes, discovering new skills and testing biking abilities on a 30km route with a mix of rocky outcrops, sandy river beds and smooth flowing single track. A morning will be spent exploring a beautiful reserve, home to a variety of big game viewed at a leisurely pace as you ride. The mid-morning tea/coffee break will be at one of the many scenic picnic spots en route, and after a bit more exploring we arrive at the camp where we will be staying for the night on the banks of the Limpopo river (overnight in dome tents). We can spend a lazy afternoon at leisure before riding or walking to a nearby sundowner point. We’ll enjoy dinner around the camp-fire, accompanied by the night sounds of the wild.
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After a light breakfast, we depart with an energetic cycle towards the next camp – testing terrain and changing landscapes making for a great ride. Eventually we reach camp, an open-aired boma and traditional meeting place, under majestic Mashatu trees. After a delicious lunch and shower, spend the afternoon relaxing in the shade of the giant trees. Take a short drive to a nearby high view point for sundowners before returning to Limpopo River Lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest in the comfortable chalets.
- Meals: Breakfast
After a last breakfast, take an (optional) final ride back to the Border Post, or transfer by vehicle, arriving around 10am. After clearing customs and immigration, we head back to Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport for homebound evening flights.

The Cycling
Terrain
The first half of your trip explores well-manicured single track and animal paths; well suited for intermediate and advanced riders. There are frequent more technical sections, however these are short and you can always push if they take you too far out of your comfort zone.
After crossing the border in to Botswana the riding largely follows game trails and dusty routes across the Savannah. These are largely non-technical and allow you to keep your head up and stay on the look out for animals. Please bear in mind that the routes may alter depending on level of the group. In South Africa most riders will benefit from the increased comfort and control of full-suspension on the rocky terrain.

Mountain Biking Grade
25-50 miles / 40-80 kms per day
Aspects of both our grade 3 and 4 trips
For mountain bikers with some experience of singletrack and steeper terrain
May include rocky features and switchbacks
Our grading guidelines have been carefully created based on our many years of cycling experience, as well as customer feedback from our trips. Of course, if you're still struggling to figure out where you fit on the scale, do feel free to give us a quick call and we'll be more than happy to help!
For more information about our grading system click here.
Is this suitable for you?
Trips that are graded as a 3-4, will have aspects of both our grade 3 and 4 trips. If you have experience of off road riding on a variety of terrain, and would like a taste of more challenging terrain, a grade 3-4 trip could be for you. Terrain will include singletrack and steep sections (both up and down) which require more bike handling ability. Shorter technical and demanding features suchs as rocks, roots and tricky climbs will be encountered on occasion on most days. A day’s ride can see you on the trails for around 8 hours (with breaks) and covering between 25-50 miles depending on the terrain. If you’re generally fit and manage to ride frequently this could be the level for you.
