BOOK NOW
Discover both sparkling wines and sparkling oceans on this exciting cycling journey. The perfect spot in the Veneto region of northwest Italy, allowing ample time to explore the vineyard-clad country side, ending with a ride out to the bustling beach resort of Jesolo, on the Adriatic coast.
Discover the place that produces one of the world’s best-loved celebratory drinks and experience a relatively unexplored part of Italy, bursting with charm. The Prosecco hills really are a paradise for foodies and lovers of Italy alike. Recently awarded UNESCO World Heritage site status – the lush, vineyard-terraced landscapes are a beautiful sight to behold by bike. Where better to enjoy a cheeky aperitivo after a day in the saddle?
This gentle journey starts in the bike-friendly city of Treviso, home to medieval fortified walls and a network of canals. From here, you'll head out into the foothills of the pre-Alps to explore the idyllic rolling countryside - home to endless vineyards and a vast network of passionate Prosecco producers. Small and local is part of what these winemakers do – a truly special place to taste the now world-famous drink and unearth its humble origins. Whilst Prosecco is the region’s main claim to fame, those who prefer a red won't be disapointed!
In addition to a soundtrack of popping Prosecco corks, you’ll also enjoy great cycling and culture. From three delightful bases in the foothills of the Alps, we'll get to explore the region's unique location which separates the fertile plains leading to Venice from the dramatic peaks of the Dolomites.
The last leg of the ride is along the Sile river all the way to Venice lagoon and the bustling resort of Jesolo, to finish off celebrating a great cycling holiday with yet another Prosecco! Salute!

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival Venice - Transfer to Treviso

Following arrival at Venice airport, we’ll transfer (approx. 30 mins) as a group to the charming town of Treviso. With its meandering waterways and tranquil atmosphere, it’s an ideal starting point for our trip.

Arrival time permitting, there should be time to explore the town before enjoying an evening meal in one of the great local restaurants. With a glass of bubbles in hand, we’ll provide you with all the information you’ll need for the duration of your trip.

Day 2
Treviso to Asolo
28 Miles / 45 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch
  • Ascent: 300 Metres Approx.

A gentle start to our journey, leaving Treviso behind us, we’ll ride past fertile cultivated countryside towards the Montello hills that sit below the Piave River. This area was home to the deadly battles in 1918 during the Austria-Hungarian war, and a Majestic Military Memorial erected below the hill commemorates the event.

If time allows, we’ll take a quick detour to the ruins of Sant’Eustachio Abbey before we embark on a great route in the foothills of the Montello. This is a classic ride for locals, and we may find ourselves enjoying this tree-lined water course, with fellow Italian cyclists. On route to Asolo, we’ll admire the imposing Palladian Villa of Maser. Now part of UNESCO World Heritage, it’s one of the most admired works by Venetian architect Palladio.

Following a quick refuel, we’ll be ready for the only real climb of the day, the ride up to Asolo. Designated as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy due to its position on the top of the hill, Asolo has always attracted artists and writers from all over the world, including Robert Browning. Enjoying a drink in the main piazza and a walk around the town, the last section of our ride is a sweeping descent to our hotel.

Day 3
Asolo to Follina / Valmarino
28 Miles / 45 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch
  • Ascent: 300 Metres Approx.

The route today will take us out towards the Piave River, cycling through the rolling hills of Ezzelini and the Colli Asolani. Once we’ve crossed the Piave River we’ll find ourselves surrounded by lush vineyards, and it’ll be clear we’ve entered the heart of the Prosecco region.

The route to Follina and ValmarIno will follow the higher road from Valdobbiadene, with Prosecco vineyards extending on the steep hills below us. On arrival at our accommodation, our host will welcome us with a glass of one of the best Prosecco wines, on the house, from the vineyards we have just cycled through. Nothing like a refreshing local wine that’s been produced within 20 kms of your accommodation!

Day 4
Classic Prosecco Loop (2 Options)
15 or 23 Miles / 25 or 37 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast
  • Ascent: 250 or 500 Metres Approx.

Today’s ride is classic Prosecco, taking in the best riding and best scenery the region has to offer. Leaving our accommodation, the riding starts along the fertile lower valley separated by the high Monti dei Visentini and the lush rolling hills of Prosecco.

Heading south, we’ll start climbing, with woods giving way to vineyard after vineyard of rolling hills. Meandering up and down through valleys, there will be plenty of places to stop and take photos. Stopping at the Molinetto della Croda is a must, with a water mill set below a picturesque waterfall.

Looping west through Compea, you’ll find 117 hectares of vineyards, with over 100 wine producers – Including Conegliano Valdobbiadene producing Prosecco Superiore DOCG, and the exclusive DOCG Cartizze sparkling wine.

Following lunch, we’ll continue our ride towards Follina, where a visit to the Abbey with its stunning cloister is a must, before returning to our accommodation.

For those still raring to go, we can head out again in the afternoon for a 15 Mile / 25 Km ride exploring the Lakes of Ravine. A leisurely ride following cycle routes and paths along the valley to the small lakes near Ravine, Lago di St Maria and Lago di Lago.

A cycle path loops around the lakes, making it a great option for those looking for a leisurely swim or a sunbathe before looping back to the accommodation riding through some traditional villages.

Day 5
Valmarino / Follina to Treviso
31 Miles / 50 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch
  • Ascent: 300 Metres Approx.

Time to say goodbye to this amazing area and ride back to Treviso. As we ride south, we’ll take a route that leads us past medieval castles – the castle of Collalto di Susegana whose tower and bastions remain after first world war bombardments and the Castello di San Salvatore’s imposing walls and towers tell a tale of great imposing dominance in the region (privately owned).

As we head back to Nervesa della Battaglia, the route heads south through the countryside back to Treviso, where we can enjoy an evening meal together.

Day 6
Treviso to Jesolo - Transfer back to Treviso
40 Miles / 65 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch
  • Ascent: 100 Metres Approx.

Today we make our way to the bustling seaside resort of Jesolo. We set off from Treviso and follow the Greenway, a cycle route that follows the course of the river Sile to the Caigo tower in the municipality of Jesolo. This lovely route meanders the course of the Sile, along a river-side trail through lush green woods, past small inlets thriving with river bird life, watermills, castles and small villages where we’ll stop to explore and enjoy a coffee break.

After crossing the lock at Portegrandi, the cycle path enters the lagoon eaves, which runs for 11 km until the Sile flows into the old Piave at Caposile. Never far from the Lagoon the route reaches Jesolo and our final stretch along a canal lined with traditional fishing huts, leads us down to the busy coastal resort area – in time for celebratory drinks!

We’ll then jump in the support van for a quick whisk back to Treviso for our final night together.

Day 7
Departure Treviso
  • Meals: Breakfast

Time to say arrivederci after a final Italian breakfast and start your journey home.

The Cycling

Terrain

The route uses a variety of roads (including both single lanes and quiet double roads) and cycle paths (some paved, some gravel). Approx. 85% of the route is on roads shared with vehicle traffic (some with a separated cycle lane), with around 5% of the route on mixed use paths (cyclists, pedestrians, but no motor traffic). Most roads are quiet, however there will be some busier roads, especially when cycling through built up areas and bigger towns like Treviso and Jesolo.

Prosecco is a hilly region, so short climbs and descents can be expected. Day 4 will pose the biggest challenge with undulations throughout the day.

Hybrid bikes are recommended for this tour. Gravel and e-bikes are also suitable. Opting for an e-bike will help make day 4’s cheeky climb a little more manageable and day 6’s long stretch of riding quicker, allowing more time to spend at the beach! It’s a good option to help manage the heat on the warmer summer months. E-bikes are generally heavier than hybrid bikes, which is worth bearing in mind if needing to lift the bike up / down steps or over cobbles in some of the towns. If you’re looking for an opportunity to try some quiet roads, cycle paths or some accessible, cycle friendly routes these trips might be for you.
