Our place to place journey starts in Olot where we can explore the town and its surroundings. Day 1
Arrival: Girona / Olot
Non Riding Day

Today you’ll arrive into Girona airport, from where we’ll transfer you to Olot. You’ll spend your first night in Olot, which is the capital of the Garrotxa County and surrounded by four ancient volcanoes. After settling into your hotel, your local representative will help you set up your hire bikes, should you be hiring, and talk you through your maps and trip notes to make sure everything is clear for the week ahead. For customers arriving a little later today, we will organise the welcome meeting for the following morning.

Depending on flight times, you will hopefully have time to take a walk around the city, known for its Neoclassical and Art Nouveau architecture.

Day 2
Olot to Les Planes D'Hostoles
16 + 2 (optional loop) Miles / 25 + 3 (optional loop) Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast

On your first day on the bike you’ll follow the Greenways cycle route which takes you along a former narrow gauged railway from Olot all the way to the Costa Brava. You’ll be cycling through the most fertile valley of Sant Esteve d’en Bas, known as “little Switzerland” thanks to its lush landscape. Before you arrive in Les Planes D’Hostoles, you can do a little loop ride (3 kms approx.) that takes you to the waterfall of Moli D’en Murri, for a refreshing end to the cycling. Tonight you can enjoy the peaceful country location of the little town with its beautiful Modernist buildings, built during the industrial boom at the turn of the last century.

Day 3
Les Planes D'Hostoles to Girona
22 Miles / 36 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast

Today you will be following the greenways from Les Planes D’Hostoles, through the Ter Valley, to the pasturelands of Salt and Girona. You’ll finish today’s cycling in the ancient, walled city of Girona. Perched on a hillside, it is the perfect place to spend an afternoon admiring beguiling architecture and wandering around labyrinthine-like streets. It’s time to relax and take it easy!

Day 4
Sightseeing in Girona
  • Meals: Breakfast

Today is yours to spend as you please… a free day in Girona to visit the Jewish quarter, Arab baths and the churches of Sant Feliu and Sant Pere de Galligants. If you are looking for a little challenge to enjoy while exploring the old quarter there are discovery maps available with the promise of a little treat at the end – ask us for more details! This afternoon enjoy vistas of the city from the impressive town wall and the river Onya which separates the old part of the city from the new.

Day 5
Girona to Caldes de Malavella
17 Miles / 27 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast

It is time to say adios to Girona this morning, as you rejoin the Greenways and cycle towards the coast; you will cycle through the Selva depression to Caldes de Malavella, where the famous natural water “Vichy Catalan” comes from and where you will spend your night. Caldes de Malavella can trace its human origins back to Paleolithic times, but it was the Romans who founded a town here when they discovered natural thermal springs in the area and built baths, the remains of which you can still find in the town centre. This delightful town, situated in the foothills of the mountainous Montseny massif, is an immense ecological space designated as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It’s the ideal destination for rest and relaxation in one of the thermal spas.

Day 6
Caldes de Malavella to Sant Feliu de Guíxols
21 Miles / 33 Kms Approx.
  • Meals: Breakfast

Today you’ll follow the Greenway from Caldes de Malavella to Llagostera and the last section of the “Vias verdes” towards the coast. You finish your ride in the mediterranean town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, which is a charming historical town with a beautiful beach and stunning landscape. You will spend the night in a hotel above the beach with awesome views. This relaxing setting gives you the perfect opportunity to celebrate the end of your week in style.

Day 7
Departure: Sant Feliu de Guíxols / Girona
Non Riding Day
  • Meals: Breakfast

It is unfortunately time to say goodbye to the coast and to this beautiful region, as today we will be transferring you back to the airport for flights home.

The Cycling

95% of your route will be traffic free, taking you along on purpose built Greenways from Olot, out to the coast. Following the Vias Verdes (a mixture of hard packed gravel tracks and asphalt), the route will take you through relatively flat terrain, with some hills and undulations as you head out towards the coast. Only around 5% of your route will be on quiet roads shared with vehicle traffic! The route is not suitable for road bikes.

Family Cycling Grade

Grade 1 - 2 : Easy/Gentle

Aspects of both our grade 1 and 2 trips

Suitable for those looking for a relaxed ride

Occasional ups and downs

Our grading guidelines have been carefully created based on our many years of cycling experience, as well as customer feedback from our trips. Of course, if you're still struggling to figure out where you fit on the scale, do feel free to give us a quick call and we'll be more than happy to help!

For more information about our grading system click here.

Is this suitable for you?

Trips that are graded as a 1-2, will have aspects of both our grade 1 and grade 2 trips. These tours are still suitable for those looking for an accessible cycling holiday with manageable daily distances, along predominately flat terrain, however there will be some days / sections where we’d expect you to be up for a slightly cheeky challenge. It might be that the distances are a little longer on some days or that the terrain is slightly more undulating, but the rides are still relaxed and manageable for families who are generally fit and healthy.
