As seen in the press...
The Picos de Europa National Park is an extraordinary prickling of scenery that lurks just inland from the Asturian coast and is easily reached from the UK. To truly immerse yourself in the lofty landscapes, there’s Saddle Skeddadle’s guided “Trans Picos” mountain bike holiday.
The Telegraph (2019), Spain's best cycling holidays
Already joined another Skedaddle holiday...
The guides were great, always helpful and thoughtful to our needs. Very professional. Dan knew the place comprehensively and devised some fantastic routes that seemed superbly researched. He had just the right approach of being informal, professional and friendly at the appropriate times.
The places we visited were stunning!
The places we visited were stunning, but what made the experience even better was the quality and knowledge of the guides. They were all super friendly and motivating. Friendly from the start. Knowledgeable, trustworthy and kind with his encouragement with all abilities in the group. An excellent level of personal skills.
An absolutely rip-snortingly briliant holiday, thank you! An excellent standard of accommodation throughout the trip, with the exception of one night spent in a mountain refuge – an unmissable experience, nonetheless!
The cycling was technically and physically demanding level of mountain biking in spectacular scenery. Interesting and varied trails, with optional routes provided for the more adventurous. With my relatively limited experience of mountain biking but reasonable fitness levels, I found the cycling very challenging but deeply satisfying. I had occasional moments of self-doubt when facing a steep and rocky downhill, but coped with the (many) climbs.
Dan is fabulous. Really a nice, low-key, totally customer-focused guy. Had two new guides, Mika and Ramon. You would never have known they hadn’t been with Skedaddle for years. Great additions.
Dan’s knowledge of the trails in The Picos was outstanding. He could describe what was coming on the trail very accurately and come up with alternatives where necessary. His cycling skills aren’t bad either!!
Some of the best trails I have ever seen!
I have been in different areas of Spain and this is a completely different feel, definitely some of the best trails I have seen and almost completely empty. This trip should be on any mountain bikers top places to visit list. Just to be clear I am comparing this with the Rockies, Moab, Fruita…it is that good!
I actually enjoyed the Refugio as a one-time experience. I was glad we had good sleeping bags so we could sleep outside! I felt it added to the adventure of the trip.
The Skedaddle team were excellent!
Unfortunately I fell off my bike on the 2nd day of the holiday. The Skedaddle team were excellent. I received immediate calm and effective first aid from Ramon, who then kindly drove me to the hospital, some 2 hours away, where he stayed with me whilst awaiting treatment. I had to spend the rest of the week in the support vehicle, but the holiday was still good, thanks to the kindness of the guides and the other “guests” on the trip.
A really enjoyable but tough weeks cycling in a beautiful setting (it was my first grade 4-5 trip).
I was one of the weaker riders in the group so Dan’s enthusiasm, relaxed style and encouragment really helped me enjoy the cycling. Everything seemed to run so seamlessly, the organisation, logistics, food etc although I also appreciate how much work must go in to running something so efficiently. I can only imagine the level of responsibility the leader must carry to allow people like me to go on holidays like this – thank you.
A massive pleasure of the holiday was not having to think about any logistics and just to relax and enjoy the riding and scenery.
Memories to last a life-time
Loved the mountain refugio. Starting with the spectacular ride up the cable car through the rain clouds into the sunshine, followed by beautiful singletrack all morning. The climb up to the Refuge is brutal at the end of the day, but the sense of achievement and stunning views when you get there are hard to beat.
