Our Hors Categorie tours offer the usual great levels of service, but are designed for people who want the riding to be at the very forefront of their holiday. Each element of these trips has been tweaked to allow you to focus on the riding, with everything from the support and snacks, to the evening meals and route details engineered to let you enjoy the challenge.
The routes are amongst the most challenging we have offered and take on Europe's must-ride areas. With several days climbing over 3,000m and covering more than 150km, this selection of trips are for experienced riders who are confident in their ability to both climb and descend, and for those who relish a challenge.
The trips include the Raid Alpine and Raid Pyrenean, which read like a roll call of Tour de France favourites. Raid Dolomiti over in Italy traverses Italy's Northern Alps and Dolomites and showcases the changing, challenging gradients which make the area so thrilling to ride. Finally, we’ve introduced two new HC trips in 2016, both of which offer more challenging options for two of our most popular Iconic Journeys: a 12 day Lands End to John O’Groats and a 13 day St Malo to Nice.
The Raid Alpine road cycling holiday in France begins in Thonon les Bains close to the Swiss border and ends 740km later in Antibes by the shores of the Mediterranean. This is a real challenge which takes in some of the highest mountain roads in Europe and is designed to appeal to experienced riders. The route takes us over 43 categorised cols, naturally including many made famous by the Tour de France.
